Here's how it goes.

A swallowed magnet travels to the stomach.

The morning of your procedure.

You swallow a small magnet with a glass of water. It makes its own way down, and you don't feel a thing.

The second magnet is placed beside the first.

In theatre, about an hour.

While you're asleep, Dr Loy places a second magnet through a few tiny incisions. The two magnets find each other and hold on gently.

The magnets hold together while a new opening forms.

Over the next two to three weeks.

Your body forms a new opening between them by itself. Nothing cut away, no staples at the join.

The magnets pass naturally through the intestine.

Once the opening has formed.

The magnets leave naturally when you go to the toilet. A simple X-ray confirms they've gone.

From then on.

Food takes a shorter route, and a smaller meal is enough.
